Presenting features and short-term outcome according to pathologic variant in childhood primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.
BACKGROUND This was a retrospective analysis of children in one center who had primary (idiopathic) FSGS. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, AND MEASUREMENTS There were 41 patients: 34.1% female, 65.9% male, 80.5% black, and 19.5% white. At presentation, the mean age was 10.9 +/- 0.9 yr. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is defined as a clinical-pathologic syndrome manifesting proteinuria and focal and segmental glomerular sclerosis with foot process effacement. The pathologic approach to the classification of FSGS is complicated by the existence of primary (idiopathic) forms and multiple subcategories with etiologic associations, including human immunodeficiency virus ...
متن کاملHistologic variants of primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis: presentation and outcome.
INTRODUCTION The clinical significance of histologic variants of primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) remains unclear. With the aim to determine presentation and outcome of the variants of FSGS in a hispanic population, we studied our cases of this glomerulopathy. METHODS In this retrospective study, all renal biopsies with FSGS (1998-2009), were classified according to the Colum...
متن کاملMorphological features of primary focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis.
Focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is one of the most common and non-specific patterns of glomerular injury encountered in human renal biopsies. The primary form can be considered when there is a nephrotic syndrome without other causes. The majority of authors agree that podocytes play a role in the development of segmental glomerulosclerosis. The lesion begins with cell hypertrophy,...
